April Creative Crew

It's my last month on the design team for the Creative Crew over at Splitcoaststampers.  I have had a lot of fun with the challenges this quarter and can't wait to see what the new team has come up with come May.  This month we were encouraged to challenge ourselves on each of the projects.  It could be using a new technique, My Digital Studio, a stamp set in a different way, or any other way that would challenge you with the projects.

You can visit the design teams cards at the Creative Crew gallery.  Make sure you link up your projects and tag them too!

CCREW0413DF, CreativeCrew, SUO or SUM -- DSP/Color Focus: It's almost time to say goodbye to the 2011 In Colors. This month, show us the beauty of Island Indigo, Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, Lucky Limeade and Pool Party! To challenge yourself, focus on your least favorite of these colors.

I challenged myself by using all five of the 2011 In Colors on one card.  Some of them are more used than others, like Pool Party, Island Indigo and Lucky Limeade, so it was fun to try and incorporate Wisteria Wonder and Calypso Coral since I don't use those as much.

Stamp Set: Field Flowers
Cardstock: Calypso Coral, Wisteria Wonder, Whisper White
Ink: Calypso Coral, Island Indigo, Lucky Limeade, Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder
Tools:  Modern Label Punch, Curly Label Punch, Handheld Circle Punch, Argyle Embossing Folder, sponges
Accessories: Doily, Mini Brads, Dimensionals

CCREW0413CF, CreativeCrew, SUO or SUM--Creative Focus: This month, let's show off our new paper piercing tools! Located on P181 of the main catalog and on P 27 & 36 of the spring catalog, these can add a great accent to any project! Challenge yourself to add piercing to your card in a new way. If you don't have the paper piercing tool, use a pushpin!

I don't get my piercing tool all that much so just digging it out and using it was quite the challenge for me!  I used the squares to create frames around my little postage stamps.  I used the back side of the piercing to create more visible texture.  I also challenged myself by using ribbon in a new-to-me technique on this card. I made my rosette on a sticky strip circle and then heated it with my heat tool to form it more into a flower shape. I loved watching the ribbon shrink and form!

Stamp Sets: Bright Blossoms, Petite Pairs
Cardstock: Crumb Cake, Summer Starfruit, Whisper White
Ink: Primrose Petals, Gumball Green, Raspberry Ripple, Summer Starfruit
Tools: 1" Square Punch, Postage Stamp Punch, Piercing Tool and Mat, Occasions Paper-Piercing Pack, heat gun

CCREW0413HF, CreativeCrew, SUO or SUM -- Holiday focus: Let's make cards for the men in our lives! I need these often, and I don't make them enough. Challenge yourself by using a non-masculine set to make your masculine card or by trying a new technique.

I challenged myself by using a new technique on this card, tapestry.  I started with glossy white cardstock and sponged it with Certainly Celery, Gumball Green and Wild Wasabi.  I then stamped the leaves in Whisper White, poured clear embossing powder over the whole thing and embossed it. The embossing powder didn't stick all that great to the whole thing so I went back and added VersaMark over the whole thing and embossed it with clear embossing powder again.

Stamp Sets: Feel Goods, Wonderfall
Cardstock: Glossy White, Certainly Celery, Vellum
Ink: Certainly Celery, Gumball Green, Wild Wasabi, Whisper White Craft
Tools: Oval Framelits, heat gun

CCREW0413SF, CreativeCrew, SUO or SUM -- Scrapbook focus: Punch it out! This month, make punches the focus of your scrapbook page. Challenge yourself by using a punch in a new way or using MDS if you haven't before.

I challenged myself by using MDS. I don't use it very much, especially to share with others! :)  I watched a few videos about changing the opacity of objects and grouping them together so you can more easily move them around. I used the Fancy Flower punch five times to create one row of flowers, colored them in, and then grouped them together.  Then I copied and pasted the group four more times to create my background.  This was so much easier than trying to line up the flower 25 times!  I also used punches to create my cross since I did not have a stamp. I just used two squares and resized them to get the two parts of the cross. I found that you can pretty much make any shape you want with punches just by altering them!
