A Card of Encouragement for Myself!

I have been struggling lately with thinking I am not good enough. I sometimes feel like a failure for quitting my teaching job to become a stay-at-home mom. I don't know WHY I feel like that because I know how much of a full-time job that actually is, but that's just how I feel sometimes. So I decided to make a card for myself to help me remember that I just need to have faith in myself and know that God has a plan for my life!

I used the challenges at Hand Stamped Sentiments and Just Add Ink on my card.
I have been seeing a lot of cards where they white emboss an image on vellum and then sponge ink on the back for a kind of stained-glass effect, so I wanted to try that!

These flowers are addicting to make!  I think they look so much better than on regular cardstock!  I bent the petals down and adhered them with part of a Dimensional, which I hid with rhinestones and tiny little pearls. I was kind of sad to not have my Lacy Brocade embossing folder that retired for the back scalloped oval, but I think the Mosaic embossing folder did the trick nicely after I sponged Midnight Muse ink on it.

Stamp Sets: Feel Goods, Secret Garden
Cardstock: Soft Sky, Vellum, Shimmer White
Ink: Midnight Muse, Primrose Petals, Summer Starfruit, Versamark
Tools: Secret Garden Framelits, Ovals Collection Framelits, Mosaic Embossing Folder, sponges, Heat Tool, Embossing Buddy
Accessories: Rhinestones, Pearls, Dimensionals, White Embossing Powder

  1. This is beautiful, Shana. The vellum flowers are awesome, and the mosaic embossing looks great. I think all Mums struggle at times with their decision to work/not work in a paid environment; try to be kind to yourself, and know you're doing THE most important job!! Thanks for joining us at Just Add Ink this week. :)

  2. Hi Shana. I'm sorry to hear that you have been struggling lately. We all have times where we question our decisions ... but you need to have faith that the plan for you right now is to be where you are, doing what you do. I'm glad you made yourself an encouragement card ... and I'm sure the journey of making the card was very meaningful to you.

It is beautiful. I love the sponging of color on the vellum with the white embossing - makes for very delicate blooms. Lovely paired with your embossed oval. I hope it made you feel better to see the beautiful work of art that you created. Loll xx

  9. Shana your card is beautiful and it should be a strong encouragement to you and your faith in God. I made a decision like yours 23 years ago and when I look back now it is the best one I made, and my kids have grown up so beautifully and well balanced as a result of it. Just believe you can and you will and there are so many mums out there that can encourage and support you as they too struggle with these feelings. Thanks for playing with our sketch this week at Just Add Ink. ♥

  11. What a great technique this is. I must give it a try too. Beautiful card - and so lovely that it's for you! I totally understand how you feel - I struggle with the same juggle - work/family - want to do both but more drawn to one than the other - but then there's the committment made to work......it's such a battle for all working Mum's out there. If I could just make the choice - it would be easy - I'd be at home with my littlies.

  15. Shana, I completely understand your feelings! I hope you've cheered up :) You are so very talented, and you know that these precious days with our children are numbered and few. I, too, have opted to stay at home, as well as homeschool, and it's less financially comfortable - which I hadn't even considered! But with adjustments to my mindset and patience, prayer, and gratitude, I know this is a fabulous time. I hope it is for you, too! Your card is a wonderful paper hug to yourself! It's gorgeous, and I'm sure you have it on display to brighten your days. Thanks so much for playing with us at HSS :) Hugs, Erika

  19. Shana - as a grown-up who had a stay-at-home-mom, I encourage you to embrace this change (when you can) and know that you have taken on the toughest and best job ever. There is nothing you can do to trade the experiences you will have as a stay-at-home mom and I assure you, when your kids are grown, you will still be receiving dividends from that paycheck. I routinely thank my mom for all that she did for me growing up and as I practice being an adult every day, I know personally how hard those choices she made must have been. Smiles to you - you are worth it. Oh, and you make darling cards!!!

  20. Beautiful card Shana and such a nice thing to do to remind yourself of your worth. Coming from a mom who has worked far too many hours in the past 8 years (sometimes up to 65 or 70 a week for weeks at a time), I can tell you that you never get that precious time back with your kids and it goes by way too fast. I have significant regrets about that and wish I had been braver to accept a lesser income role to be a stay at home mom. It may not reflect now - but I promise you will see why you chose to do this as your children get older. Hugs to you dear Shana!

  21. God always has a plan, it's just hard when we have to wait on Him to get peace from following it!! This is a very lovely card...keep it on the fridge or the mantle!! It's so soft, but makes a bold statement! Thanks for joining us at HSS! From one stay at home mom to another....you will find your niche. Join a MOPS group or Bible Study....that helps get you connected. I started up a morning stamping group at my house. I often hire a sitter so my other SAHM's can bring their kids, too!
